Our mission can basically be defined as being a two pronged approach:
- To never forget the roots of the village and to make every effort to help preserve the history of Champney's Island and the people who have come before us
- To undertake and facilitate efforts and initiatives that work toward securing the continuation of the "the essence" of our community and it's value well into the future
We believe that by making an effort right now to healp create new opportunities that are in keeping with our desire for creating a future that is anchored in the past, represents the best plan to help ensure that this community survives and remains for others to enjoy.
CWRG endeavors to make the best efforts that we can to help ensure the preservation of the past while working on initiatives that have potential help to make the future of our island home a bit more secure for generations to come. We are committed to social, cultural and economic improvement our community.
It is most gratifying to knowwe are not alone in our goals. We realize the immense value of the tremendous support that has already been kindly given by so many people over the years. folks that live here, people with past roots here and by every visitor or vacationer that has made their way to Champney's Island. Many people from various countries and with diverse backgrounds have visited our wee community over the years and have come to enjoy it's warmth, it' beauty and created their own lasting memories that were "Made Right Here". We wish to preserve that feeling of welcome and warmth for everyone
All of our community members and the CWRG wish the world to know that we feel blessed and honored to be supported by so many people from so many other locations around the world. You have a "heart won" thank you from us. Your support will not be forgotten!
To those of you that live nearby, and to those that live thousand of miles away, you have our commitment to always bid you a great day and to help make your time and visit here enjoyable, whenever we can! Your visits and support has played a wonderful role in keeping our wee community alive and in helping to create it's future!
We are dedicated to seeing our way to the future that is anchored in a proud past!
Our latest activity involves construction / operation of an Aquarium - Live Touch Tank Learning Building to show case the underwater life found in Newfoundland and Labrador. This is initiative being guided by volunteer work from Dr. William Driedzic and his wife Cathy, with the support of Memorial University, both federal and provincial governments, and the Huntsman Marine Science Centre in New Brunswick. We have secured approximately $200,000 in funding to date and our goal is to raise $50,000 more, trough donations and local activities like kitchen parties and old fashioned concerts etc. If you can, please consider making a donation. You can donate using the button below or by mail or in person. Thank You!
We are so proud to have realized a major goal in creating a Heritage House. Trough hard work and the donations - support of Dr. Marjorie Rogosta and family, along with many others, the Ella Freeman Heritage House Museum is now a reality and open to the public. This represents what we believe to be a milestone achievement in securing real history for future generations to enjoy. If you got a minute or two have read about it.
